I am a qualified and experienced Integrative Counsellor working with adults and older adults, including people with grief and loss, childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, physical health problems, relationship difficulties, work-related problems and post-traumatic stress. My therapy work is founded on a person-centred, trauma-informed approach and I specialise in anxiety and relational trauma. I offer one-to-one therapy sessions online using Zoom and Teams platforms.
About me and my practice
Alongside the integrated models of working in which I originally trained, in recent years I have been training in and practicing in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy or ISTDP. ISTDP is an effective and evidence-based way of working with anxiety and depression and the effects of adverse life experiences in childhood and adulthood on personal wellbeing and mental, emotional, and physical health.
However we choose to work together - whether from an Integrative or ISTDP-focussed approach - we will combine your desire for positive change and my active stance in support of this to help you with whatever is creating difficulties in your life and in your wellbeing. The purpose of our combined efforts will be to help relieve your emotional distress and anxiety so that you are more able to reach the goals that you wish for yourself, your life and your relationships.
My commitment to our therapy relationship includes providing a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space in which you can share your difficulties, thoughts and feelings freely, and I will be an active advocate for your health and wellbeing for the duration of our work together. This commitment is supported with regular clinical supervision of my therapy work and continuous training by appropriately qualified and accredited professionals.
Experience
Over many years of working with the effects of childhood and adult trauma, I have learnt how our normal ways of responding to adversity can have far reaching effects, including becoming sources of difficulty in themselves, and can continue to affect us long after the original dangers have passed. I have also learnt that no therapy offers a one-size fits all solution to these problems: each of us is unique in how we experience things and make sense of what has happened, the solutions we develop in order cope, the meanings we ascribe to our problems, and what we find most helpful for healing.
My original training was as an Integrative Counsellor and underpinned by the Person-Centred approach. In recent years I have broadened my therapy skills through further training, including in the ISTDP model. This varied base provides us with alternative ways in which we can arrive at a mutual understanding of your difficulties and gives us options on how we might work together to suit your unique experiences and individual situation.

Initial Consultation
I offer a free 30-minute online or phone meet-up. This gives us both the opportunity to find out more about each other and to arrange how we might initiate our first therapy session, including date, time and online platform. Fees and concessions are available for discussion during this meet-up.
I usually advise an extended 'first session' of up to 2 hours (120 minutes). This is to help us explore together the difficulties that you are experiencing and the best ways of working therapeutically that would be most beneficial. This extended session can be arranged as a 2-hour appointment or two 60-minute sessions in one week.
